BHL Draft It Yourself - Marianne Evening Bag

MARIANNE EVENING BAG

A chic evening bag to match your finest handmade frocks! This DIY project uses up minimal fabric, can be sewn in under an hour and is the ultimate palette cleanser or sewjo reactivator. Fully lined, securely zipped and shaped with angled side seams and box corners, the finished bag can be worn as a classic shoulder bag, or adjust the strap to transform it into an elegant purse that dangles off your wrist.

Red roses - Dolce & Gabbana deadstock from Elisalex's stash

Green & blue floral - Jacquard from Elisalex's stash (originally from The Fabric Store NZ)

Black lace - Rainbow Fabrics

Cream - Leather from Matilda's stash

Denim - Upcyled jeans and sparkles from Jess' wardrobe and diamanté cup chain from The New Craft House

Orange gingham - Silk taffeta from Elisalex's stash (originally from Promenade Fabrics USA)

  • Fabric
  • What you need

The world of fabrics is your oyster with this project! Soft leather, sequin fabric, brocade, jacquard, velvet, denim, or anything else that takes your fancy!
Lightweight fabrics will need to be interfaced to add structure. For the lining, anything from calico to silk will work just fine.

  • Pattern drafting supplies
  • Your main fabric
  • Your lining fabric
  • Woven fusible interfacing (optional)
  • 2 x 1⁄2” or 12mm rings D or O-rings*
  • 1 x larger ring - this needs to be wide enough tofeed over your doubled up bag strap/chain*
  • 1x 35-60cm decorative chain or handbag handle*
  • Bag zipper to match the length across the top of
    your bag*
  • Pliers for metal rings (if needed)*
  • A hand sewing needle
  • Your sewing machine and usual sewing tools and
    supplies
